When an object is so faint that background noise dominates

  • eugenius by eugenius

It should probably be pointed out that at some WLs an object may appear so faint that
background noise dominates, and there appear to be multiple objects in the circle.
I think this is the case for AWI00001hg in the H band. I suppose in such a case you
would not want to have this classified as a multiple image, correct?

Yes, you're right; this is a case of noise dominating. Other investigators here have described this as "static" or "mottling", which also works for a description. 😃
