Hi, I've been doing these today but not sure I have it right. Is the object just the white centre or does the object include the light blue round the white? Help needed Thanks

The colors represent the brightness, so white represents the brighter spots, light blue medium, and dark blue/black is mostly noise. The answer to your question though: is try to pay attention to both. Most of the objects emission is both the white and light blue, but when you get to the shades of the blue that make up the background image, I would ignore those because they can't be trusted.
For example, the 2 MASS images are very noisy, meaning there is a lot of blue splotches in the background that don't really correspond to any object. Anything on the level of those splotches: ignore.
Does that help?
