That is .. odd, I agree. I think it might be just noise, though. Essentially all of these objects are so far away that we won't ever see flares like that. Even on some of our nearest neighbor stars, we don't see flares like that, and this thing is most likely much further away.

The red circle has got to be hundreds of AU in diameter (within an order of magnitude anyway, I would guess). That wouldn't be a solar flare, that would be a system-killing event.
