Define Z mag
-
This object has a Z mag = 15.7634 does this mean this that this object is 157+ billion light years away?

I think you're mistaking the zmag for z refering to the redshift of an onject.
Here, as all the stars you can see in DD, it is relatively nearby with no significant redshift.

Refer to http://skyserver.sdss3.org/dr9/en/tools/quicklook/quickobj.asp?id=1237673705567094838 ;hit explore;notice column z; explain or clarify. Im still confused on this.

hi,
the Z band is one of several filters (u, g, r, i, z) used on the SDSS camera.
zmag is the magnitude of the star in the z band (purple), centered on 8932Å:this zmag shoud not be mistaken for z, refering to the redshift for distant objects.

Great explanation ; thank-you for the info. now I still have to recognize the z redshift: Thank-you Anoxie
